My name is Patricia O'Connor, and I have had many careers in my life, and I continue to test my boundaries. My latest endeavor is working on AI training projects for multiple companies. It's an exciting time as different models (Grok, ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, etc.) strive to be better. One way to do this is to ensure that their training information is accurate; otherwise, it's garbage in, garbage out, and the model will not respond accurately.
That's where AI trainers come into the picture. Model developers outsource the creation of data sets to companies like Mindrift and Outlier AI, where writers may create prompts and evaluate a model's answer for completeness and truthfulness. But that's only one type of task; there are countless variations. Perhaps you have an audio conversation with a model or ask it what happens at a particular time in a video. My point is that there are projects out there for almost anyone.
You don't have to be a coder or an engineer, although there is a demand for that. Translators and STEM specialists are always needed. I'm a retired real estate broker who focuses on writing and editing now. But you don't have to be any of those things. It's a great job for retirees, like me, as well as the younger folks.
